RECOMMENDED INITIATIVES
This survey only related to UmRio participants and was conducted during the hottest
summer months in Rio de Janeiro. Creating an ongoing study with FioCruz will allow
UmRio to understand and prioritize residents' most pressing concerns about climate
change’s impacts on their lives and generate resilience programs that positively
address those impacts.
Below is an outline with a suggested process of how to conduct climate change
and resilience surveys for Morro do Castro residents in collaboration with
FioCruz:
1 Survey Implementation
Conduct a semiannual survey measuring changes in residents' awareness,
experiences, and needs about climate change and resilience.
Formulate questions related to the survey regarding data collected by
FioCruz through which one can identify prevailing trends and significant
concerns within the favela.
All questions should be created in partnership with FioCruz as they are a
research institute and may have other data to help inform survey creation
for Morro do Castro residents.
2 Data Examination
Categorize demographic variables (age, gender, length of stay in area,
ownership status of house, employment, etc.) based on survey responses to
see whether there are any particular vulnerabilities or needs among various
population groups in Morro do Castro.
Review quantitative and qualitative reviews to detect relationships or areas
where action must be taken promptly.
Write a summary report on key findings and recommendations made by
UmRio.
3 Act On Conclusions
Compare future surveys’ findings and SAP’s recommended interventions to
determine what should continue being prioritized and what may need
alteration for UmRio’s benefit.
Set priorities for programs based on community needs while keeping them
financially sustainable within UmRio’s budgetary limits.
Come up with an agreed-upon process to track the progress and
effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
